LESS than three months before he fell to his death, Mr David Hartanto Widjaja’s laptop had been used to search for websites on suicide and murder.
Senior Staff Sergeant Joe Ng, from the Technology Crime Forensic Branch of the Criminal Investigation Department, told the court that apart from the text file, he also found 10 text fragments relating to internet searches on suicide.
Senior Staff Sgt Ng said the user had conducted the search through Google and also visited websites for information on the topic.
Senior Staff Sgt Ng also found three text fragments relating to Internet searches on murder.
The user had done a search through Google on murder methods and accessed two websites on the subject.
Senior Staff Sgt Ng said he could not determine the specific dates when the Internet searches were done or when the websites in question were accessed.
But based on the Web browser that was used, it would have been within the last 90 days – which was the duration of the browser’s history list.
Senior Staff Sgt Ng said the laptop user had also accessed three online games – Starcraft, Destiny Online and Warcraft 3 – during that period.
However, he could not determine how long the user had spent playing the games.
Other than extracting information from Mr Widjaja’s laptop, Senior Staff Sgt Ng also conducted forensic examinations on a memory stick and a handphone which belonged to Mr Widjaja.
Senior Staff Sgt Ng had been asked by the investigating officer to search for information in relation to the case.
He did not find anything relevant in the memory stick. He said it contained video files, which the user had later deleted.
When asked by state counsel Shahla Iqbal if he had viewed the deleted videos, Senior Staff Sgt Ng said that they were episodes from the television series Prison Break.
It was not mentioned in court if this was the same memory stick which Mr Widjaja had supposedly handed Associate Professor Chan Kap Luk, 45, before he allegedly stabbed him.
According to Prof Chan’s testimony, Mr Widjaja had told him that his work on his final-year project was stored in it.
As for Mr Widjaja’s handphone, Senior Staff Sgt Ng said that between 1Feb and 2Mar, a total of 329 SMSes had been sent and received.
They showed that Mr Widjaja had exchanged the most SMSes with Ms Chua Jia Yu, 18, a student, but no details were given about their contents.
Ms Chua had earlier testified that she and Mr Widjaja played the online game Destiny Online for hours every day, sometimes till as late as 4am.
Mr Widjaja had also ‘married’ Ms Chua in the computer game and had developed feelings for her, although they never met in person.
